Lockable storage for nail-care paperwork
Choose around your papers and the people who need access. A lock limits casual access at home; it is not a promise of protection.

Start with fit, placement and access
Completed planner pages, question cards and instruction records are personal. Most households already have somewhere private to keep them. A lockable box or cabinet is worth comparing only when that place does not limit casual access well enough.
Internal fit
Usable space for your Letter pages, folder or binder.
Access plan
Who will hold the keys or know the code.
Placement and weight
Space, listed weight and any setup the maker requires.
Choose the access arrangement before choosing a product.
Agree who can open it
List who needs the papers.
Usually the person the notes are about, and perhaps one named caregiver.
Ask permission.
A caregiver should have the person’s permission before recording, storing or sharing their information.
Decide where keys or codes live.
Keep the spare key or written code somewhere separate from the box, never taped to it.
Plan for absences.
Write down who opens the box if the main key holder is away.
Write the arrangement down. The caregiver handover page in the visit pack builder that comes with our free kit has a line for “Permission agreed: which pages, who may see them, copy or no copy, and the date agreed.”
Our article How to keep printed nail-care notes private at home covers choosing a private place, and the caregiver handover checklist covers passing notes on.
Use what you already have
A lockable desk drawer, filing cabinet or cupboard may already do the job. If your papers fit with room to spare and the right people can open it, you may not need anything new. An ordinary folder in a private drawer can also be enough for a small set of pages. The FTC’s identity-theft advice includes keeping documents with personal or financial information in a safe place.
Keep the contents organized too

Compare lock designs and key management
| Lock design | Sharing access | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Key | Each person who opens it needs a key. | How many keys come with it; how replacements are ordered. |
| Combination | Shared by telling the code. | Whether the code can be changed, and where it is written down. |
| Electronic keypad | Shared by code; some have a backup key. | Battery type, what happens when batteries run low, the reset process. |
Check each point in the maker’s manual. Plan the access arrangement before buying.
We make no security claims. A lock limits casual access; it may not stop forced entry, fire or water. If a seller claims fire, water or theft resistance, look for published test evidence and what it covers, and treat claims without evidence as unverified.
What to verify before buying
| Check | Evidence to look for |
|---|---|
| Usable fit and setup | Internal dimensions (not outside size), listed weight, any mounting or setup steps. |
| Lock and access | Key or code details, number of keys, replacement or recovery process. |
| Protection claims | Published evidence for any rating or resistance claim. |
| Total cost and returns | Current price, delivery, taxes, return window, warranty length and exclusions. |
